Captain John M. Arroyo, U.S. Army (Ret.), served 20 years in the United States Army as a Green Beret, leading from the front and living the Warrior Ethos.
On April 2, 2014, during the mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, he was shot point-blank in the throat. Critically wounded and bleeding out on the pavement, his life hung in the balance.
Then he heard it: “John, get up.”
He rose.
The bullet shattered his voice box, but it did not silence him. After fighting through surgeries, recovery, and the unknown, John reclaimed his voice and redirected his mission. Today, he speaks to troops, first responders, churches, and students across the nation, delivering a battle-tested message of resilience, faith, and purpose.
John and his wife, Angel, stand as living proof that adversity does not define a warrior, response does. His faith did not remove the fight; it gave it meaning.
From Special Forces to survivor, his mission continues.
